Note: The Russian publishing history of the Narnia books has a pattern to itself. The following list gives the titles of the seven books in Russian, then the transliteration, then the title in English, followed by the date that the title first appeared in Russian. (Without delving into copyright laws, it should also be noted with some surprise that the full text of each of the seven books can be found on various websites originating in Russia.)

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe translated by Natalya Trauberg (Some other sources credit G. Ostrovskaya) in 1978, and published by Detskaya Literatura in Leningrad, became a remarkable event in the literary life of Russia. Even though the number of copies did not meet the demand, these books were not republished until the Perestroika of 1985. The edition did not contain any foreword or comments about the author. Before Perestroika fantasy and fairytale literature were out of favour.
